March 5, 2011 -- Marlborough, MA -- The Association of Game and Puzzle Collectors, (AGPC), the world’s foremost organization dedicated to the collection and preservation of games, mechanical puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles, will hold its 27th annual convention in Lancaster, PA from April 29-May 1, 2011. The AGPC’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter will be hosting the event. Game and puzzle enthusiasts from all over the world will congregate at the Marriott Lancaster Hotel at Penn Square in downtown Lancaster for fun, games, puzzles, workshops, and presentations.

Herb Levy, president of Gamers Alliance, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s AGPC Convention. Gamers Alliance is an international gaming network, unparalleled as a source for out-of-print games, offering the largest selection of out-of-print games anywhere. Levy’s Gamers Alliance Report is the longest running, continuously published, English language game review publication. Levy will also be presented The Bradley-Parker Award—named after two of the greatest entrepreneurs in the game industry, Milton Bradley and George S. Parker—for his significant contributions to the gaming world.

Also scheduled to speak is Ben Brazil, Ph.D candidate at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Brazil’s topic will be on “Bingo! The Odd and Religious History of an American Pastime.”

AGPC Conventions highlight interesting and notable speakers in the world of games and puzzles, and afford a wonderful opportunity for members to meet, listen to others in their respective fields, and to share their own interests and expertise. In addition, convention activities include:  displays of historical games and puzzles, an auction, opportunities to buy and sell collectibles, as well as plenty of game playing and puzzle solving.

Since its founding in 1985, the AGPC has grown from a core of American collectors concentrating mostly on games made in the United States to an international group of enthusiasts collecting games and puzzles from around the world. Members of the organization have produced thousands of pages of material on games and puzzles, and have served collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.

“Over the past years, AGPC Conventions have been held in many different locations, including San Francisco, CA, Baltimore, MD, Charleston, SC, and London, England,” said David Beffa-Negrini, president of the Association of Game and Puzzle Collectors. “This is the first time our game and puzzle convention will be hosted in Lancaster. The city and its surrounding area offer many advantages for a convention like ours. There are plenty of museums, shops, antiquing, and historical attractions nearby.”

Beffa-Negrini concluded, “Conventions afford a wonderful opportunity for members to come together, share interests and expertise, buy and sell items, tour interesting game and puzzle venues, and of course, have some fun. We have a lot of wonderful activities planned, before, during, and after our event, including visits to President James Buchanan’s Wheatland, the Cornwall Iron Furnace, and Julius Sturgis Pretzel Factory.”
