The cake is packed in a plastic freezer bag that preserves freshness whether fresh or frozen.  Shelf life in the bag is 12 to 14 days when unrefrigerated and up to 6 months if frozen.  Cakes are shipped via the US Postal Service to APO and FPO addresses and normally arrive to their destination within 10 days of shipment. The cake is ready to eat and no baking or extra preparation is involved.
