Not Like Her... (Beauty Re-Defined)

And she said, my athletic build and tomboyish posture, just isn’t feminine enough to be a sexy woman.
…and only if my jeans were tighter and my natural complexion was made up with make up, then maybe.. I could be…
beautiful like her…
- yeah…
the one on tv, in that music video, with legs to die for and the long straight hair.
He told me I could be beautiful,
just like her…
And maybe…-if I had a little more skin to show
Maybe, if I had a switch to my walk, unbuttoned my shirt a little. and let my fingernails grow…
and then, maybe.. I can be… beautiful,
just like her…
Welcome to my world…
Where being who you are is condemned and loving yourself within,
is like committing suicide and all because you are just..
“NOT that GIRL.”
But tell me how can I look at myself in the mirror and be someone that i aint???
How do I represent “ME” if I am standing in this foreign picture that I didn’t paint?
And yet, I am rejected and disrespected for being my own artist?
What do you mean, why am I so angry?
I AM NOT LIKE HER…
Muthaf*#&#&$… I… AM BEAUTIFUL REGARDLESS.
Cuz see my creator didn’t design me to be walking in shoes that didn’t fit.
The writer of my book, won’t revise these bold words that are written and deeply embedded in my script.
The light may have barely shined where I came from, But I AM THE FIRE behind MY struggle.
My path may have been washed away by the pouring rain, but my EMPIRE will NEVER crumble.
YES… Society Beats ME down…
But I will KEEP rising, like the rose that grew from rubble.
After the storm, I am that beautiful RAINBOW you will see in EVERY puddle
And yes I fell, but WHO I AM, made me GET BACK up.
Been through hell, but the FIRE made me SIT BACK up…
I asked god, “where’s that “beauty,” you promised to send.”
He said, look in the mirror…
