Follow on Google News | Survey Exposes the “Utter Madness” of the European CourtA comprehensive survey* by the UKs No 1 Free Cashback Website (Topcashback.co.uk), has shown that men are more likely to be caught speeding than women and yet women will be asked to pay higher insurance premiums.
By: Duncan Robb Conservative MEP Sajjad Karim also said "This is a victory for boy racers and a major blow for both democracy and careful women drivers.” Respondents were split almost equally between men and women but 46% of men admitted to being caught speeding while for women the figure was only 31%. The fact that they were caught on camera dispels any sexist myth that women can talk their way out of it when stopped by a male police officer. Overall, it comes as no surprise to find that more than half of all those completing the survey admitted to speeding on motorways (51.9% women and 59% men). 3.2% admitting to being boy racers and constantly breaking the law but for women the figure was slightly less at 2.7%. More than 1 in 4 women (26.7%) claimed that they never broke the speed limit but only 1 in 5 men claimed the same angelic trait. Among those who admitted to speeding, just under half (48.4%) had actually been caught, meaning the majority are getting away with it. Those who had never been caught claimed this was because they had the cunning of a fox or the luck or the devil. Even among those ‘angels’ who claimed never to speed, 12% admitted to being ‘nicked’ at some point since passing their test. Perhaps they have mended their ways as a result? The survey results showed the chances of being caught speeding increased with annual mileage, only a third of those averaging less than 10,000 miles a year had been caught but over half the higher mileage drivers had met the same fate. Respondents to the survey were mainly experienced drivers with almost ¾ having passed their test more than 10 years ago. Commenting on the findings of the survey, Duncan Robb of Top Cashback said “The announcement by the European Court comes as a surprise when this survey would indicate that men are a greater insurance risk than women and therefore are more likely to be involved in an insurance claim.” * * * ENDS * * * Date: 3 March 2011 Issued by Duncan Robb For further information call Duncan on 0207 1939 029 or email duncan@topcashback.co.uk Notes for Editors: *The survey was completed online by 2,310 respondents from February 3 – 25, 2011.
