The Plant Encyclopedia, The Global Guide To Cultivated Plants.

The Goal: To make available the sum of humanity's horticultural knowledge, open across the planet.

The Plant Encyclopedia is a not-for-profit wiki, authored by the public worldwide. It is the first truly global guide to cultivated plants. Now even a novice gardener can add to the eco-botanical knowledge of humanity and make that information openly available around the world. The benefit to the ecology of the planet, and the landscapes in which we all live, is obvious. From creating beautiful environments through gardens, to growing food locally, to endangered plant propagation, at Aden Earth we've rolled out The Plant Encyclopedia for the world, to help foster all these efforts and more. Anyone can become an author.

The Plant Encyclopedia is designed for fast and easy reference. Passionate gardeners, horticulturists, and botanists around the world author these plant pages and upload images. The website automatically structures information into the proper scientifically accepted branches of the 'tree of life' making them a fast and valuable reference all around the world.

The Plant Encyclopedia - Project Goals

Currently The Plant Encyclopedia is in beta testing phase, and lists over 25,000 plants.

Within the month of March 2011 300,000 more plant pages will be 'seeded' by the organization Aden Earth. This will help speed the public authoring process and upon launch of these pages, The Plant Encyclopedia will immediately be the most comprehensive global plant information resource ever made available to the public.

The long-term goal is to serve a plant page for 1.25 million plant species. This will cover all plant species discovered on Earth. These 1.25 million pages will be presented in a friendly, mobile resource that's faster and easier to use than a gardening book. Of course no gardening book could hold over a million pages, but this is the verging potential of The Plant Encyclopedia. This goal is expected to be reached within this year of 2011.
