Carpenter's Roofing & Sheet Metal in West Palm Beach, Florida, Wins 2011 Gold Circle Award

March 2, 2011 - PRLog -- West Palm Beach, Florida- - -Carpenter’s Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc.—South Florida’s oldest roofing and architectural sheet metal contractor brought home the National Roofing Contractors Association’s (NRCA) highest honors: the 2011 Gold Circle Award for Innovative Solutions.

From an International pool of highly talented and industry recognized companies nominated for the “Innovative Solutions” category, Carpenter’s Roofing was among a group of three finalists. In the end, however, the February 17 announcement was made during the NRCA’s 124th Annual Convention at the International Roofing Expo in Las Vegas that Carpenter’s had taken gold for a one-of-a-kind elliptical dome crowned in copper.

“It’s truly an honor to receive an award of this caliber,” says Jason Lovelady, President of Carpenter’s Roofing & Sheet Metal.  “We knew we were on to something truly unique with this project, something requiring the metal craftsmanship that went into old-world architecture.”

The swirl of 1,100 individual and unique diamond shaped copper panels covers an elliptical dome that was designed to mimic a similar pattern in the marble flooring of another home designed by local architect Thomas M. Kirchhoff, AIA, who nominated Carpenter’s for the award. From pouring the 5,000 psi structural concrete deck beneath the copper dome to marking the intricate and unique pattern and attaching the diamond-shaped panels, the project was as logistically challenging as it gets, Lovelady says.

“There was nothing like it in our corporate memory or in any of our 80 years of reference material to guide us with construction,” he says. “We were completely on our own in devising the techniques needed to install this particular pattern of diamond shaped copper panels on this very unique shape. I’m very proud of what our team was able to accomplish.”
