Chapel Hill, recently designated one of America’s 12 Distinctive Destinations, is competing for the title of Fan Favorite among the 12 towns or cities selected.

March 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Chapel Hill, NC. – Chapel Hill, recently designated one of America’s 12 Distinctive Destinations, is competing for the title of Fan Favorite among the 12 towns or cities selected.  The title is decided by an online vote, and Chapel Hill is encouraging local residents to vote daily and encourage their friends and families to do the same.  The contest runs through March 15 and the Fan Favorite will be announced the following day.  

“Chapel Hill loves competition, especially in March,” said Patti Thorp, wife of UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp, at the announcement event at the Carolina Inn, “and I encourage everyone to vote.”  Voters are automatically entered to win a complimentary two-night stay at any Historic Hotel of America.

2011 marks the twelfth announcement of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations annual list.  To date, there are 144 Distinctive Destinations located in 46 states throughout the country.  Chapel Hill was recognized for its commitment to historical preservation, natural beauty, historical significance, bustling nightlife, renowned restaurants, shopping and arts scene.
