The annual Scottish Curry Awards are nearly upon us and 2011 is set to be just as successful as previous years. The event takes place on May 23rd at the Thistle Hotel,Glasgow, is expected to add some heat to our otherwise chilly Scottish weather!

March 1, 2011 - PRLog -- The awards which have been consecutively running since 2008 have been a sizzling success  in the past, celebrating Scotland’s favourite fab dish and awarding those dedicated curry lovin’ folks involved in all aspects of the lucrative industry.

Award nominations are officially open and will close on the 15th April 2011. To submit your nomination, all you need to do is download a form from the official website: www.lovecurry.info and send it into us via email or post.

It seems the beloved curry dish has become somewhat of a national treasure with over 10,000 Indian Restaurants and takeaways throughout the UK serving around three million mouth watering meals per week making it a multi billion pound booming industry.

Yasmin Mahmood, Campaign Manager for the event recognises the Scots love of curry and encourages people to nominate, she said: “It seems everybody loves a good curry to tickle their taste buds and what better way to celebrate the mighty dish than to hold a ceremony in its honour.  Maybe you’d like to nominate your absolute favourite local takeaway that serves up sumptuous spices, an individual who has dedicated their living days to the business or possibly even someone that just can’t enough of consuming the delicious delight and gets curry cravings if they go without!”

So why not ‘curry favour’ with this dearly loved dish by awarding  the people that devote their time to making it an essential part of Scottish cuisine and get nominating in the following categories:

Since the inaugural event, over 700 guests have attended the annual occasion and have enjoyed tucking in to the much talked about dish and live dance performances providing spirited entertainment in the form of modern traditional Indian dance – this year’s lively doo is expected to have a similar turnout.

In the past, the awards have presented a number of notable winners including First Minister Alex Salmond who triumphantly walked away in 2009 with the Curry Lover of the Year Award and was succeeded in 2010 by Trampy and The Tramp who founded a web blog entirely devoted to spreading their love of the delicious dish.

Some of last years noteworthy winners included: Bukharah, Glasgow which scooped The Sunday Post Restaurant of the Year Award, Dr. Wali Uddin who majestically walked away as Curry King 2010 and Sohan Singh who was presented with the revered Lifetime Achievement Award for his undying devotion to the industry.

A staggering 5000 plus nominations were received for 2010’s ceremony and with momentum growing around the awards, 2011 is set to be just as competitive.
