March 1, 2011 - PRLog -- A ‘FLIPPING’ good time is promised for all those attending a traditional Pancake Lunch on Shrove Tuesday.

The resident chef at Boughton Hall, in Filkins Lane, Chester will be cooking up the ‘empty the larder before Lent’ treat, complemented by an array of sweet and savoury fillings.

Boughton Hall, previously a Barnardo’s children’s home, has now been beautifully refurbished and extended and is bustling with activity as an age-exclusive retirement community.

The Pancake Lunch will take place in the oak-framed Garden Room Restaurant on Tuesday, 8th March.

Did you know?

−  The days in the run up to Shrove Tuesday used to be called Shrovetide.
−  Shrovetide started on Egg Saturday and was followed by Quinquagesima Sunday – the 50th day before Easter.
−  Collop Monday was named after the traditional dish of the day – collops (or chunks) of bacon served with eggs.
−  The fat from the collops was then used to make the next day’s pancakes which were made with the household’s remaining fats and cream.
