Feb. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- As neighborhood art galleries and art dealers struggle during tough economic times, Three Sisters’ Marketplace is creating a new, sustainable opportunity for art enthusiasts to buy, sell, and share their craft online.  The new virtual art community launched this week and it’s FREE for artisans to join and list their items. It’s also FREE for shoppers who can buy original art, form relationships with the artists, and even sign up for art classes.  The site features an interactive web community that offers a variety of hand-made, unique, specialty items for the most finicky shoppers who are looking for quality and originality. All of the items posted on Three Sisters’ Marketplace must pass through a jury made up of artists, gallery owners and astute shoppers. Three Sisters’ Marketplace is also a platform for art enthusiasts and hobbyists to share information about upcoming art exhibits, gallery openings, and art classes through the Three Sisters’ Marketplace Blog and Events Calendar.  “You won’t find just any old thing on the site,” says Wendy Wolf, Founder and CEO of Three Sisters’ Marketplace. “It’s about quality, handmade items and connecting artisans and shoppers as you would in a store.” Three Sisters’ Marketplace gets a small 15% commission of all sales on the site, the artist gets the rest, and the shopper gets a quality work of art. Numerous artisans have already registered to sell unique, one-of-a-kind items like hand-forged fireplace irons crafted by a blacksmith, unique sculptures, colorful organic cotton dinner napkins, handcrafted bath soaps, Raku-fired pottery, hand-beaded jewelry, original oil paintings and much more. There will also be opportunities to buy services from performing artists such as vocalists and musicians. “What sets Three Sisters’ Marketplace apart from the competition is that it’s juried to maintain high quality and the artisans only pay a small percentage once they make a sale. It’s free to join and free to list,” says Wolf. “Artists, crafters and shoppers can connect with each other, exchange information about upcoming events and not worry about the high cost of opening and maintaining a storefront, or paying to participate in exhibits and craft shows.”
