Narrowing the Achievement Gap - Inspiring Latino Youth to Dream Big

The Latino Professional JA Community Initiative is the premier platform for bringing together the Latino community to educate and inspire youth to dream big and reach their fullest potential.

Feb. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Junior Achievement of New Jersey announced today that it will convene a Latino Leaders Forum to focus on the need for more role models for Latino youth on March 3, 2011 from 5:30 PM -8:30 PM in Newark, NJ.  

The forum titled, “Narrowing the Achievement Gap: Inspiring Latino Youth to Dream Big and Reach their Full Potential” is sponsored by Prudential Financial, The New Jersey chapters of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), The National Society of Hispanic MBA’s (NSHMBA) and in partnership with ASPIRA New Jersey, and Hispanics Inspiring Students’ Performance and Achievement (HISPA).

The following business leaders will share strategies for empowering and inspiring youth.
•   Moderator:  Bernie Jacob, senior vice president and chief financial officer, U.S.,   Prudential Financial, Inc.  
•   Rene Deida, senior program director, The Prudential Foundation
•   Kaplan Mobray, best-selling author, career coach, motivational speaker, National Board of Director for the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting
•   Carlos Valentin Jr., executive director, ASPIRA
•   Luis Diaz, Esq., Director, Intellectual Property Group and Chief Diversity Officer at Gibbons Law Firm

“There is a vast need for more Latino role models for the youth,” says Orley J. Pacheco, vice president of Corporate Development, ALPFA NJ and chairman of the Latino Professional JA Community Initiative. “We recognize that need and we’re getting together to share best practices and leverage resources to do something about it.”

In addition to the Latino Leaders Forum, these organizations will put their words into action as mentors at Junior Achievement’s Latino Professional Community Day on March 11, 2011 from 8:30 AM -1:30 PM in Newark, NJ.  Volunteers will deliver Junior Achievement’s financial literacy programs to about 1,000 Newark, NJ students empowering them to own their future economic success.
