Newhope Church is not only a beacon for Christ for passersby on Fayetteville Road, but it's also a monument to the fact that dreams can come true.
The dream for a unique church was that of Pastor Benji Kelley, who just nine years ago launched his ministry with only his wife and three kids in the congregation. The church now accommodates 2000-plus Sunday worshipers in its three worship services in a new 37,000 square foot building located right in the epicenter of growth in the Triangle area.
It's not just the new building or the contemporary music, however, that have fueled startling growth at newhope, it's the congregation's careful attention to harnessing every high tech trick in the book to “Reach, Teach and Release,” words that describe the pastor's dream and church’s vision, and are on the exterior walls of the church's front.
The “Reach” in the church's vision refers to its ongoing commitment to investing and inviting people to discover the love and grace of God in Jesus Christ. Using publicity and mass marketing tools, the church is permeating central North Carolina with its message, not with a guilt trip or a “we are right and you are wrong” approach, but with insight into relevant aspects of the Gospel message. How does this teaching play out in my life?
The “Teach” refers to newhope's attempt to help members become “self feeders and kingdom builders.” Worship celebrations instead of didactic sermons are its signature and Small Groups instead of a slow line-by-line crawl through Scripture are its modus operandi.
The pastor has said: “The final and desired destination of every “newhoper”
“Release” is the goal. Sending fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ into the secular world to live a life of fulfillment that reflects what God has called that person to be in Christ. And part of what it means to be released as a fully devoted follwer of Christ is to be the “Reach” and continue the closed-loop cycle of Reach, Teach and Release.
The pastor has said: “The overwhelming majority of energy, resources and time will be given to Reaching, Teaching and Releasing people in Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh and surrounding areas.”
The church's menu of high tech offerings is impressive. Check it out.

Check it out at www.newhopenc.org.
PODCAST: For tech savvy folks, there's Podcast where you can subscribe and download Pastor Benji's weekly audio messages from iTunes. This is an ideal way to catch up on missed sermons or to inspire yourself as you begin your day on a jog or on your drive to work.
VIRTUAL NEWHOPE COMMUNITY: Available on Sunday and Thursdays at 7 p.m. at www.newhopenclive.org. Between the iCampus and the social media sites, the Virtual newhope Community worship experience is for those traveling, homesick, or on those days when you need to stay in. But it is also a church-home for many regulars who live far away. While it's never intended to replace the live worship for those who live near, it can come in handy at times.
TELEVISION MINISTRY: Time Warner Cable, Sundays, Channel 24, 10-11 a.m. & Faith on Demand #1083. The church is finding its TV ministry, the latest tool added to its outreach efforts, to be a powerful and effective way to reach more people for Christ. Also, many are discovering newhope and Christ as a result of airing commercials and the Sunday services.
