Feb. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- A Virginia newspaper reporter has exposed the Internal Revenue Service’s offensive against stressed taxpayers, but Tacoma bankruptcy lawyer Dave Yando provides multiple proven tax-relief solutions for taxpayers to defend against the IRS.

Richmond Times-Dispatch reporter Carol Hazard broke the story: “Liens, levies against taxpayers rise sharply.”

Ms. Hazard reported: “The government agency filed liens against 1.1 million taxpayers last year, up from 168,000 in 1999, according to the IRS website. In the past seven years, it has filed more than 5 million tax liens.”

For starters, Mr. Yando (http://www.yandolaw.com) says four of the legal taxpayer-dispute options include the United States Tax Court; the United States Court of Federal Claims; the United States District Courts; and United States Bankruptcy Court.

“If a taxpayer otherwise qualifies for bankruptcy, there may be significant advantages to having the tax issue decided in Bankruptcy Court, as the Bankruptcy Court tends to be more debtor/taxpayer friendly,” adds Mr. Yando.

Mr. Yando also explains his other tax relief solutions on his informative Web site: http://www.yandolaw.com/tax-relief.

Mr. Yando speaks from his 30 years of experience. He also licensed to practice before the United States Tax Court, United States District Court in addition to the state of Washington.

“Only the IRS and state taxing authorities have the power to place liens, garnish wages, and levy bank accounts without first going to court to prove the legitimacy of their claim,” observes Mr. Yando, the Tacoma debt solutions lawyer.

“Unfortunately, this unparalleled power often results in abuse of taxpayers’ rights,” says Mr. Yando, the debt relief lawyer from his Tacoma office.

The news article quoted National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson from her recent Congressional testimony.

"By filing a lien against a taxpayer with no money and no assets, the IRS often collects nothing, yet it inflicts long-term harm on the taxpayer by making it harder for him to get back on his feet when he does get a job," Ms. Olson told Congress. “…despite the high unemployment rate, the IRS continues to increase the number of tax liens it files each year.”

“Tax liens damage a taxpayer's credit and remain on a person's credit report for seven years from the time the tax liability is resolved or longer if it is not resolved,” Ms. Olson was also quoted as saying. “A tax lien can be particularly devastating to small businesses, as it often cuts off their access to credit."

The article also quoted Frances F. Goldman, an attorney, accountant and president of The Community Tax Law Project.

"Very few taxpayers set out to cheat the government. They are afraid of the IRS. They don't want to get into a quagmire," said Ms. Goldman. "Once something goes wrong, it seems to go on and on. The penalties and interest build and, before you know it, you've got thousands of dollars of interest and penalties that are larger than the original tax bill."

Mr. Yando points out countless Americans are also losing their homes and mortgage loans while trying to cope with their tax ordeals.
