Colvin, a respected journalist and education leader, has headed the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media at Teachers College, Columbia University, since 2003. Previously, he wrote about national education issues for the Los Angeles Times, where he was a reporter and editor for 4 years. He also reported on education for the Oakland Tribune (CA) and the Hayward Daily Review (CA).
Colvin holds a bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Michigan. He was a media fellow at the Hoover Institute at Stanford University and in 2000 won a Knight-Wallace fellowship for mid-career journalists at the University of Michigan. Colvin was an Education Sector nonresident senior fellow before joining the organization's board of directors in 2010.
