So, what did bees do before beekeepers? Unable to find a logical answer to what seemed to be a simple question, Christy Hemenway launched an investigation of her own. She came to the conclusion that with bees, less is more, meaning: less human interference equals more health for the honeybee.
In 2007, Christy founded Gold Star Honeybees http://www.goldstarhoneybees.com ) to advance a beekeeping system known as the “top bar” hive - the original movable-comb, managed beehive. The most important feature of a top bar hive is that it lets bees make their own beeswax honeycomb in a natural, chemical free way.
Christy Hemenway, will be the featured guest on The Organic View Radio Show (http://www.theorganicview.com) with host, June Stoyer on February 24, 2011 at 4p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The exclusive interview will explore top bar hive beekeeping. Callers are welcome to join the conversation during the show by calling (917) 932-1068. The live, Internet talk-radio show will stream from the host page at http://blogtalkradio.com/
“The best thing that people can do for the honeybees is take up backyard beekeeping and get involved with programs which educate the public about our most important pollinator,”
