Feb. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- In a feature on RTE’s Four live show, with Maura Derrane, Director and Dietician Harriette Lynch spoke of the work healthpro are doing in pioneering food labeling on menus across the country.  With clients ranging from Beshoff Bros fish & chips, bay restaurant, Credo Pizza and The bagel Bar chain to name but a few.

Harriette appeared on the show and discussed how people need to be given the correct information and education regarding what we are eating.  To highlight the lack of knowledge out there, Harriette compared two starter dishes, main courses and desserts that you might typically find in a restaurant.  When the calories were reveled they were not what either Maura or I doubt very much, the viewers were expecting.  For example the salad, which is often perceived as the healthy choice, came in way above the calorific value of a sirloin steak and indeed contained over half of the calories of a typical female recommended daily allowance at 907kcal compared to the 6oz Sirloin steak which when analysed came in at 270kcal

Harriette believes that people deserve to be given the correct information when consuming food outside of the home and with 60% of meals now being prepared this way, it is vital this information is provide.

With the war on obesity weighing in, healthpro may just have the solution on how to combat this epidemic in Ireland.
