Most tank driving days offer the opportunity to drive a selection of vehicles across purpose-built, off-road courses.  The most common tanks encountered include the monster 56ton Chieftain Main Battle Tank - built in the 1960s it had the most powerful gun and heaviest armour of any tank in the world; the Abbot which comes in at the smaller proportions of 16.56 tons and 5.8m long and was part of the British Army FV340 series of vehicles;  the ‘Stolly’ or  Alvis Stalwart which first appeared in 1959 and has submarine style hatches to enter.


Tank driving days may also allow the recipient to try out a number of more manoeuvrable or agile light armoured vehicles, giving the driver a feel for reconnaissance missions as they are both fast enough to be used on hard road surfaces but rugged enough for off-road adventure.
