Enjoy a taste of Wales during St David’s Week in Swansea

Feb. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Food lovers across Swansea are in for a treat when the city celebrates all things Welsh.

As part of St David’s Week, taking place from 26 February – 6 March, people in Swansea will be able to sample a range of culinary delights at Swansea’s famous Indoor Market and the Get Welsh Food Festival in Castle Square or enjoy one of the special Welsh menus available in restaurants across the city.

Swansea Market is celebrating its 50th year and will be offering shoppers a wide selection of welsh food including delicacies such as cockles and laverbread fresh from Penclawdd and Welsh cakes straight off the griddle.

The ‘Get Welsh’ Food and Drink Festival returns to Castle Square on Saturday from 9.30am – 4.30pm, for its fourth year, showcasing a fabulous line up of producers from Wales and some of the finest Welsh products including top quality wines, meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables.  

Those looking for something more local will be able to pick up some traditional Welsh ingredients from the local produce and craft markets. Clydach Produce and Craft Market is taking place at Moose Hall on Saturday 26 February, 10am – 1.30pm with Sketty Local Produce and Craft Market being held at Bishop Gore School Canteen on Saturday 5 March, 9.30am – 12.30pm.

To celebrate Wales’ love of food, a number of restaurants will be serving a host of mouth-watering Welsh themed dishes.  Both Gallinis and the Dragon Hotel have prepared sumptuous menus throughout the whole week whilst Morgans, Norton House and Sketty Hall are providing a number of exquisite courses on Tuesday 1 March to celebrate St David’s Day itself.  

St David’s Week is a week long festival of music, food, dance, poetry and culture running from 26 February – 6 March and aims to commemorate Wales’ patron saint and celebrate Swansea’s rich Welsh heritage.
