   BALTIMORE, MD, - Dedicated to empowering women, Dress For Success Baltimore (DFSB) will hold a 5K walk over Mother’s Day weekend. “Power Walk” is designed to raise funds and awareness for the many women in the Baltimore Metropolitan area who utilize DFSB services in order to gain employment and become self-sufficient.  The event will take place at the Lake Montebello, Herring Run Park on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the walk following at 9 a.m.  Walkers can register to participate online by visiting www.dfspowerwalk.org/baltimore.

     In 2010, more than 30 teams of Dress for Success Worldwide sponsors, volunteers, and clients walked in support of the organization in New York City raising more than $100,000.  Based on last year’s success, Dress For Success affiliates are holding the event this year simultaneously across the country in a show of nationwide solidarity raise more funds. To assist in achieving this goal, walkers will be required to pay a $15 fee at registration and are encouraged to solicit at least $250 in donations to support the organization.  Any participant who raises at least $50 will receive a free t-shirt.

   Cleona Garfield, CEO and Founder of Dress for Success Baltimore hopes the Baltimore chapter will “meet or exceed the funds raised at event held in New York last year. I am just so excited about the wonderful opportunity ahead of us as we work to continue our mission of giving women in need suits to self-sufficiency.  The funds raised through this event, along with other donations collected throughout the year will assist us in our goal of serving more than 400 women this year.” The organization relocated to new headquarters in the fall of 2010 and is proud of the accomplishments of the more than 800 women they have served since 2007.  For additional information on the event or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Nancy Briguglio, Baltimore@dressforsuccess.org or 443-562-8296.
