Feb. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- On behalf of the PPIAC and the Licensing Committee, I am pleased to inform you that:

HB 11-1195 Passes the Judiciary Committee Unanimously!

A bill Concerning the Voluntary Licensure of Private Investigators, passed the Colorado House Judiciary Committee Unanimously!  Just before that - on February 17th - the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies also released its report in SUPPORT of licensing!  Both of these are events that have not happened in the 30 years PPIAC has moved for licensing.

Thanks to the hard work, dedication and support of members of the Professional Private Investigators Association of Colorado (PPIAC) and other professional investigators in Colorado and nationwide, including the support of the National Council of Investigation and Security Services (NCISS), the House Judiciary Committee yesterday approved an amended version of HB1195 - Concerning the Voluntary Licensure of Private Investigators and passed it on to the House Finance Committee for fiscal review.

The purpose of professional licensing for investigators in Colorado is to elevate the profession within Colorado to the standards of our colleagues.  We feel that this will further protect the citizens and consumers of Colorado, and provide a framework of vetted investigators for attorneys, businesses and individuals that use the services of professional investigators.

Two amendments were made to the original bill - one amendment eliminated the request to statutorily restore access to restricted public records, a second amendment includes misdemeanor crimes involving sex offenses, stalking and harassment as disqualifiers for obtaining licensure.

The bill was then directed to the Finance Committee and after that will move to the House floor and then to the Senate for committee hearings and Senate floor.

Here are the bill sponsors:

House - Judiciary Committee
House Sponsors - Bob Gardner (and committee chair - bob.gardner.house@state.co.us) and Su Ryden - su.ryden.house@state.co.us)

Senate - committee not assigned
Senate Sponsors - Linda Newell (linda.newell.senate@gmail.com)

The PPIAC, founded in 1978, was formed to improve the credibility of private investigators, and to provide guidelines for a licensing statute in the State of Colorado. Our continuing efforts to strive for licensure remain undaunted.
