WHY: Lori Paul is the mother of one adult and four small children, including a set of twins and one special needs child, and wife of an ex-marine and current part-time Paulding County firefighter. Diagnosed in 1999 with a Meningioma brain tumor on her right optic nerve sheath, she underwent radiation treatment in 2000. However, the tumor began to grow again eventually causing complete blindness in her right eye. The tumor is now causing pain that requires daily medication as well as visible disfigurement. Left untreated, the Meningioma could possibly cause eventual blindness in her other eye. As a mother with four young children, surgery is essential to her ability to continue normal daily functions.
Emory University has overseen her treatment from the onset. However, now tumor removal is required. In Lori’s case, the most equipped facility in this country to perform this procedure via least invasive means is the Skull Base Institute in Los Angeles under the direction of Dr. Hrayr Shahinian.
This benefit is to help raise funds to cover travel and medical costs that aren’t covered by insurance.
