Feb. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- The Music of the Carolinas series is going green for St. Patrick's Day with North Carolina's own Thistledown Tinkers, a powerful duo featuring Trip Rogers and Tom Eure. As evident on their new CD, (Pronounced 'kel-tik), which was released this past fall, these seasoned artists weave traditional Irish and Scottish music with original elements, including their own southern swagger. These musicians have made it their mission to make Celtic music that forces folks to stand up and take notice. This is not the fragile, romanticized Celtic music of movie soundtracks, but rather the kind that makes you sing along and stomp your feet.

With an impressive arsenal of acoustic instruments, including guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, dulcimer, and concertina, in addition to powerful vocal harmonies, this duo will draw you in and make you feel like a part of the show. Thistledown Tinkers deliver the beauty and tradition of Celtic music, new and old, with the guts, showmanship, and attitude of an arena rock band. You will find them wherever kinsmen are gathered and the craic is lively! Admission to this program is FREE.

The Music of the Carolinas series showcases the musical traditions of the various cultures that call our state home today, in addition to featuring some of today's best home-grown North Carolina traditional artists. Other upcoming programs in the series include:

Step It Up & Go, a film produced by Glenn Hinson - Sunday, April 10, 2011
Sprout Wings & Fly, a film directed by Les Blank - Musician Alice Gerrard and Appalachian State English Professor Cece Conway will introduce the film. Mother's Day - May 8, 2011;
Flamenco Comes Alive! with Carlota Santana - June 12, 2011

Join PineCone and the Museum of History every month through June to discover and celebrate North Carolina's rich musical heritage! All Music of the Carolinas concerts begin at 3 p.m. in the NC Museum of History's Daniels Auditorium. They are free and open to the public, and program notes are provided. Large-print program notes are also available at the concerts. For more information, please visit http://www.pinecone.org.
