It is not a painting or a statue, but a human skull covered with diamonds.
Damien Hirst, the English artist, made a platinum cast of the skull and covered it entirely with 8601 different diamonds, except for the teeth that are real.
The skull has been valued at 100 millions euro.
The skull is shown at present in Palazzo Vecchio, for security reasons only a group of 12 people can enter the Chamber
and all the area is kept under strict surveillance.
The skull has been visited by 657 visitors per day from the opening and surely this number will be raising until May, 1st.
Damien Hirst is an English artist who became famous in the Nineties.
He is often criticized by animal activists because he uses animals to create his works of art.
For example, he recently glued butterflies to decorate Lance Armstrong's bicycle on the occasion of the Tour de France.
