In his enlightening and empowering book Dr. Rue proposes that we've limited ourselves in approaching the African-American condition and deepening plight of black men from only a socio-economic and psychological perspective. He contends that social and governmental programs will always be inadequate because the root of the African-American challenge is spiritual. Thus, in order for people of African descent to overcome their socio-economic challenges necessitates incorporating a spiritual perspective and approach as presented in the book.
Dr. Rue combines genetics and religion to make the claim that based on mankind's proven African origins, people of African descent represent the purest image and likeness of God. Their spiritual challenge is they possess God's purest image and likeness in a world according to spiritual texts is ruled by the enemy of God. He asserts Europeans have been the primary perpetrators of people of African descent cycle of bondage because they are furthest removed from God's image and likeness. Thus they are inherently more likely to carry out God's enemy will on earth. The result has been the cycle of bondage on God's original people and the current ecological assault on the environment and planet.
