Bird is the Word, free day dedicated to birders and birding takes flight on LBI

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 21, 2011 - The day will be a special treat for BIRDERS and those who would like to learn about bird watching. At 10 AM the Southern Ocean Birding Group will be on hand to set up scopes on the jetty for bird viewing after a short talk by Susan Puder, President of the organization. Attend the 1 PM lecture given by Fred Lesser of the Ocean County Parks Department who will talk about the Birds of Barnegat highlighting those present at this time of the year and will be followed by a walk on the jetty.

Last year hundreds of birding enthusiasts descended on the lighthouse to take advantage of this free event and to learn more about the birding culture in our area. The LBI Region DMO in partnership with the Southern Ocean Birding Group has published birding maps that will be available at no charge at the event, at the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center at 265 West Ninth Street in Ship Bottom or for down load at visitLBIregion.com.

In addition to the birding event, the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences in Loveladies, offers birding walks and will be hosting a Science Saturday dedicated to wind power discussing offshore, inshore and onshore wind energy and the latest progress on the wind farm projects off the coast of Atlantic City.

Wings over LBI begins at the Visitors Center at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park Broadway and The Bay in Barnegat Light, with plenty of free parking is available.
