The Bike Revolution Kryptonite Bicycle ID Kit includes three anti-theft Pulse ID tags. A Pulse ID tag is a unique, tamper-resistant and weatherproof ID tag which includes a scannable QR code (2D barcode) linked to the bike, and used to identify a bike’s ownership.
With just a smartphone and any 2D barcode scanning application, a tagged bike can be scanned. The tags are linked to the registered bike’s owner in the secure Bike Revolution database. When a stolen bike is reported by the owner, or detected through a tag scan, Bike Revolution notifies the owner and uses social networking tools to spread the word locally.
Free Stolen Bike Alerts are sent out on Facebook and Twitter to local authorities, bike shops, cycling clubs and Bike Revolution’s followers. While not meant to replace the efforts of the law enforcement community, this unique bicycle registration service offers a cyclist one more way to proactively protect his/her bike.
Bike Revolution and Kryptonite joined forces this past fall with a focus on innovative ways to create security products and services that better serve and empower the cycling community. The FREE global bike registration service provided by Bike Revolution was introduced to dealers, distributors, and others in the industry at Interbike 2010.
“A key differentiator with our program is the accessibility of the web platform – anyone can register their bike, list a stolen bike, access the database of stolen bikes and send out localized alerts for free to their communities. The scannable Pulse ID tags allow the general public and police to know the status of a bike simply by scanning it with their smartphone using a free mobile app,” said Briand Beausoleil, spokesman for Bike Revolution. “No expensive readers, administrative time, or money is needed and no personal details are shared. With a simplified, technology-based process, and the new Bicycle ID Kit we are confident that bike registrations and bike recovery will begin to grow in the U.S, while bike theft decreases.”
“Our customers are both mobile and frequent consumers of social network communications. Leveraging new technologies such as QR codes and social networking empowers customers by streamlining the bike registration process and assisting with the recovery of stolen bikes,” said Karen Rizzo, General Manager, Kryptonite. “Smartphones, social networks, and other new technology that can be utilized to deter theft and aid in the recovery of stolen bikes mark the next generation of Kryptonite bicycle security products.”
