The U.S. House of Representatives recently voted to eliminate more than $360 million for Planned Parenthood, which provides contraceptives and family planning counseling and services.
Bullock, pastor/founder of Canaan Baptist Church in New Castle, DE , said the African-American community is “under siege homicide, suicide and abortion, not to mention HIV/AIDS.”
“This is the formula for genocide,” Bullock said. “The Black Church must tell the truth to our young people that life is worth living. Life needs to focus on faith, hope and love. Any other path will lead to self-destruction.”
Bullock, pastor/founder of Canaan Baptist Church in New Castle, DE, also is concerned that more has to be done to curb urban violence. “This hip-hop generation needs a moral assignment and cause,” he said. “That assignment is education not incarceration.”
Rev.-Dr. Bullock wants more of his fellow black pastors to speak out on this issue, and do more to develop their communities through economic development, jobs and education.
Bullock, a native of Wichita, KS, is author of “The Social Mission of the Black Church, A Call to Action”, a thought-provoking book in which he challenges black churches to do all it can to improve economic and educational opportunities for its community. He has a history of getting his churches involved in the community. In Chicago, he was pastor of the Progressive Baptist Church where he led an HIV/AIDS Awareness program, provided meals to the needy and housed a computer technology center. He also served as president of the Chicago Southside Branch of the NAACP.
