Super Window Projects Presents Lg Williams/estate Of Lg Williams: In Absentia

Feb. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Super Window Project is pleased to present an exhibition by LG Williams / The Estate Of LG Williams. This is his second solo exhibition in Kyoto.

“In Absentia” is the second consecutive show of LG Williams at Super Window Project. Although if it may be interpreted as a sequel to his previous exhibition “Closed”, and an extended statement about the “absence or loss of art”— or even a commentary on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale, “The Emperors New Clothes”— it is more of a spin on Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous quote “La  pittura è cosa mentale”, and, of course, another occasion to have some serious fun.

With this seemingly obvious and deceptively simplistic attempt, Williams draws on a long history of absence and the missing object in conceptual art while deliberately twisting it.

The show consists of fifteen museum labels displayed on the white walls of the viewing room with spotlights directed at the absent artworks. Each label presents an absent artwork as follows:  Artist name, artwork title, year, medium, dimensions, and collection.

Born in 1969 (USA), LG Williams lives and works in Los Angeles, Honolulu and Kyoto.

LG WILLIAMS received his M.F.A from the University of California, Davis and B.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute. He also holds an honorary Ph.D. from ISSA, Cedar Rapids, IA.
