Give the BioCommunications Association Your Best Shot

BioImages annual visual media competition showcases the finest media work in the life sciences and medicine.

Feb. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- No more mats, no more shipping boxes, no more costly prints – BioImages, the BioCommunications Association’s (BCA) annual visual media competition, which showcases the finest still, graphics and motion media work in the life sciences and medicine – is going digital! Submissions will be accepted online March 1-15, 2011.

Each entry will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges based on its impact, clarity, scientific content, technique, lighting, image quality, presentation, creativity, originality and effective use of the medium to fulfill its purpose.

Awards are given in three visual media categories, including Still Media (Clinical, Photomicrograph, Opthalmic, General Illustrative, Portraiture, Specimen, Magnification/Stain, Natural Science, Series, Fine Art); Graphics Media (Brochures/Flyers, Medical Illustrative, Periodicals, Posters, Specialty); and Motion Media (Video, Interactive Media).

Best of Show, Award of Excellence, and Citation of Merit awards are given in each category, in addition to up to five sponsored Merit Awards, including BCA Medical Education, for the best medical teaching aid in each division; Charles Foster Memorial Citation, for best color photo-micrograph entry; C. Graham Eddy Endoscopic,demonstrating the most successful use of endoscopic equipment; Canadian Founders Natural Science, for best entry in the Natural Science category; and the Warren Sturgis Motion Media Award, for best entry in the Motion Media division.

Winners will be announced at the BioImages Opening and Awards presentation on June 1, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona, held in conjunction with “Brilliance in Biocommunications,” (www.bioconf.org) the joint annual meeting of the BCA, the Health and Science Communications Association (HeSCA) and the Association of Biomedical Communications Directors (ABCD).

The entry awarded Best of Show will receive a crystal award and a $350 cash prize. Winning entries will be projected on video screens throughout the conference venue and posted on the BCA website on June 2.
