In a project benefiting a survivor of the Fort Hood, Texas Army Base Shootings, Ty Pennington and the rest of the design team built a home for soldier Patrick Zeigler and his fiancé, Jessica Hansen, that features a truss donated by SWC.
Zeigler had been back from Iraq for only two weeks when, on the afternoon of November 5, 2009, a gunman fired more than 100 rounds at soldiers and civilians on the base. 13 people were killed and 32 others wounded - including Zeigler, who was hit four times, with one shot a near fatal wound to the head.
SWC contributed a Timber Truss and decorative Cedar entrance structure, custom fabricated steel brackets and installation assistance for the couple's new home. The truss will provide both strength and durability and is a perfect complement to the appearance and structure of the home.
“It was an honor to work on this project, especially when it helps our own community and the brave men and women in the military who risk their lives everyday,” says Charles Kott, Owner and President of Structural Wood Components. “Our truss was just one small component of the overall home design but it will help provide and protect this courageous solider and his fiancé."
In working with "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," SWC has again proven itself to be a quality, trustworthy heavy timber wood product service provider. The timber truss used on the show was selected by the project’s architects and must meet the high standards set forth by "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." To participate on the show, contractors and installers must be nominated and these nominations are usually based on a history of superior work and quality referrals. For the Zeigler home, SWC worked with well-known builder Tilson Homes.
SWC has designed, manufactured and delivered trusses for restaurants, banks, country clubs, churches, schools, libraries, outdoor pavilions, car & motorcycle dealerships, barns, apartment complexes and large custom homes. They partner regularly with well known architects and construction firms in the industry to design and deliver quality products for commercial, institutional and residential structures.
SWC's beautiful Heavy Timber Trusses, Wood Accent Pieces and Loose Timbers are customized to satisfy both visual and structural requirements while using fabrication techniques that allow delivery of a more economic timber package. Skilled craftsmen are utilized to deliver high quality products backed by years of experience to provide distinctive designs and a high caliber product, reflecting SWC's reputation as a leading supplier of architectural building components.
