Whilst there is no doubt that this is a positive step for the high tech UK manufacturing sector, there is still a substantial gap between having a good technical idea and manufacturing a commercially successful product.

Vision Engineering Ltd has been manufacturing state-of-the-art industrial microscopes in Send and Woking for over 50 years, exporting 90% of its production to Blue Chip and SME customers across the globe. For example, the development of a prototype is just the beginning; patent and design protection is a vital, but costly, minefield, which requires experience to navigate. Products must also be designed and manufactured so that they can be competitively marketed and sold around the world and still make money for the owner of the idea or his/her original backers.
