SATIB Launches Commercial and Industrial Division

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 17, 2011 - Over the past twenty years SATIB have created an enviable reputation as southern Africa’s pre-eminent short-term niche insurance broker to the Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure sectors. Having started in the Wildlife sector in 1990 by providing bespoke game mortality insurance, tourism was a natural progression for this entrepreneurial company, which led to the establishment of a long-term insurance division, aptly named SATIB Life and has logically progressed to the formation of their new Commercial and Industrial (C&I) division.

“Our expansion has been one of need as opposed to greed, says SATIB’s Managing Director, Gavin Courtenay. We have grown in response to our clients needs. Our success has always been attributable in part to our knowledgeable staff and the willingness of insurers to adapt policy wordings to accommodate the specific risk exposures of our niche market clients.”

At the helm of SATIB C&I is Gavin George as Chairman with William Croxton, a new addition to the SATIB team, who takes up the position of Managing Director.

“Both men bring with them a wealth of experience and knowledge and have been deeply entrenched in the industry for many years,” says Courtenay. Gavin George has been with SATIB since 2005, following a very successful career as Executive Director at Glenrand MIB, where he was responsible for the corporate and commercial divisions after the company’s listing in 1997.

George’s career began at Incorporated General Insurances (IGI) in 1967 and over the past 44 years, he moved through the ranks at Bibsal, Glenrand MIB and Marsh SA. He holds ACII and AIISA qualifications and has managed some impressive key accounts over the years, including de Beers, South African Breweries, Tsogo Sun and the JD Group. George says that his personal involvement in the listing of Glenrand MIB and conducting insurance due diligence exercises for SAB Beer Division in Eastern European countries such as Romania, Hungary and Poland as well as the USA were among his career highlights besides being challenging, educational and great fun. He is married with 3 children and enjoys spending time in the bush and indulging in his love of painting and sculpting. He is an avid rugby and cricket supporter.

His experience with Macsteel, Nissan, SAAB, Cape Gate and Edgars are invaluable.” Croxton joins SATIB from Glenrand MIB, where he headed up the largest corporate division. Glenrand was his home for 25 of the 29 years that he has been in the industry. Croxton’s career highlights include being the recipient of seven service excellence awards from the JD Group. He holds a Higher Certificate in Insurance from UNISA. On a personal note, he has been married for 22 years and has 3 children. His off duty passions include various outdoor pursuits such as golf, tennis, hiking, sailing, birding and skiing, as well as reading.
