North Country Triathlon Set for June, 25 2011 - 5th Annual Race on Beautiful Lake George

Feb. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- February 15, 2011 - New York City - On June 25, 500 racers will be competing in the 5th annual North Country Triathlon in on the northern end of Lake George in Hague, New York.

Racers from 15 states and four countries will compete in front of over 1000 spectators. The race, which has been growing in size each year, has become a landmark event for the region. According to the event’s Volunteer Director Donna Levenstien, the race also attracts more than150 local volunteers, and safety and rescue personnel from the area.

“The town of Hague, which stands at the edge of Lake George, provides an amazing backdrop for the race with crystal clear waters for swimmers, rolling hills for runners, and aggressive mountains for cycling,” says Race Director John Hartley. “It truly is an athlete’s paradise.”

Among the charities that the race supports, a portion of proceeds from the triathlon go to The Hope Lodge of Burlington, a “home away from home” for cancer patients receiving treatment at Burlington, Vermont’s Fletcher-Allen cancer center. Randy Engler who founded the North Country Triathlon in 2007 and chose The Hope Lodge as a way to honor both his mother, and his sister who are both cancer survivors.

“We’re excited to announce that by the close of our fifth race, we’ll have donated over $15,000 to our charity partners,” says Engler, who spent his childhood summers exploring the shores of beautiful Lake George. “I can’t thank our sponsors and many volunteers enough. This has been truly an amazing experience!”
