Feb. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- New Fitness Trends Favor All-in-One Exercise Programs that Boost Energy, Strength and Balance while Tackling Extra Pounds

Berwyn, PA, February 16, 2011 -- Remember when aerobics classes jam-packed with women moving to the beat were springing up like weeds in fertile ground?  When brawn-building gym rats packed into weight rooms and groaned through their reps?  Well now aerobics classes are thinning out and weight machines can be found sitting idle as people turn to new fitness regimens.  According to the American Council on Exercise (ACE), America's leading authority on fitness, cardio kickboxing is starting to replace aerobics, while boot-camp style workouts and TRX®-Suspension training are among the hottest trends in 2011.    These programs are blossoming because they can achieve fast results in building strength, speed, balance and stamina, while melting away unwanted fat.

ACE also reports small group instruction is taking the middle ground between pricey one-on-one training and impersonal, large group classes, enabling participants to receive personalized attention, socialize and stay motivated without emptying their wallets.
Knowing how to design effective exercise programs that take advantage of these trends is only natural for Dr. Andrew Fetterman.  He’s a former Personal Trainer and Strength Coach for the Philadelphia Flyers who has studied Kinesiology, the science of human movement, and earned a Doctorate in Chiropractic.  So he has custom designed Boot-Camp, Cardio-Kick-Boxing, and TRX-Suspension training classes. A personal trainer leads each class, which is limited to eight people. All classes are being held at Creative Chiropractic Solutions in Berwyn, Pennsylvania and start in February.

"My philosophy is to use natural ways to improve health and fitness. So I created exercise programs that are affordable, fun, easy to try out, and efficient in producing results," says Dr. Fetterman.  "Each program increases energy levels, strength and balance, while also helping people to reach their weight-loss goals.  While the classes are not easy, they are also not boring. Because exercisers have fun, interact with others, and see results quickly, they stay motivated. And I’ve made it easy for clients to sample classes à la carte.  They don’t have to commit to hefty gym memberships.  They can try one class, or save a few bucks by signing up for a fitness package."

Each program has a different appeal. Fans of The Biggest Loser know that despite having a gym full of equipment, show’s trainers have used a simple, low-cost piece of equipment, the TRX-Suspension trainer, to help sculpt contestant’s bodies.  The Biggest Loser Elite Trainer Bob Harper says “Being a trainer on The Biggest Loser, my workouts have to be effective and on the cutting edge. Thanks to the TRX, I got some really great workouts with my contestants this season….watching contestants be challenged by working on something that requires such core strength, as well as shear full-body strength, I knew I had a great piece of equipment on my hands. I really love this piece of equipment.”

TRX-Suspension training uses body weight and gravity to create an unlimited range of resistance. It also incorporates the complete spectrum of motion to build strength, balance and core stability. The TRX is not a big clunky piece of equipment. It’s highly durable nylon webbing that’s suspended from above.  Participants put their hands or feet into loops in the webbing that act as handles, and perform exercises that range from familiar chest presses and pull-ups to more complex twisting movements.  The wide variety of exercises keeps the workout interesting. And because each repetition varies slightly, the muscles used change, creating an efficient routine that taps into every muscle group. "Exercisers love it because they can get a complete body workout without over stressing any one muscle," says Dr. Fetterman.  "The next day you'll know you did something worthwhile, but you won't be overly sore."

In the Fitness-Boot-Camp program calisthenic exercises, such as bending and jumping, are blended with body weight exercises, such as pushups, interval training and plyometrics.  Plyometrics includes hops, jumps and upper body exercises performed with great speed and intensity.  It supplements the aerobic and strength building benefits of the traditional exercises by increasing the speed or force of muscular contractions, enabling athletes to develop the speed, power and explosiveness needed to gain a competitive edge in sports such as basketball, soccer, track and field and tennis.

Finally, Cardio Kickboxing combines boxing, martial arts and aerobics to provide the benefits of both cardiovascular and resistance exercises.  And, of course, it never hurts to learn a little self defense.  As with TRX-Suspension training and Boot Camp, Cardio Kickboxing melts off extra weight while developing strength, energy and balance.
TRX-Suspension Training, Fitness Boot Camp and Cardio Kickboxing programs are starting in February at Creative Chiropractic Solutions, 804 East Lancaster Avenue, Berwyn, PA.  Athletes and amateurs can try one class for as little as $15 or sign up for packages of 8 to 32 classes at discounted prices.
