LANXESS employees in Singapore usher in the International Year of Chemistry with “Lo Hei”

Feb. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- As employees of LANXESS Singapore gather to celebrate the Chinese New Year by tossing raw fish salad (an act of “Lo Hei” in Cantonese or the Prosperity Toss), Managing Director Ian Wood reiterated the company’s support for the International Year of Chemistry this year.

The International Year of Chemistry is an initiative of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Kaye Lim, LANXESS’ Vice President of Corporate Communications for the Asia Pacific region, says, “The International Year of Chemistry is celebrated by LANXESS globally. In Singapore, we have introduced the “LANXESS Brings Chemistry to Life” programme, where our goal is to help students and the general public better understand the role and impact of chemistry in our everyday life.”

To kick-start its activities in Singapore, LANXESS will speak at the first of four min-talks organised in conjunction with the International Year of Chemistry by the Singapore Chemical Industry Council. Michael Rockel, Marketing Manager of the Butyl Rubber business unit for the Asia Pacific region, will deliver a presentation titled “World of Chemicals and How They Affect Our Daily Lives”. The talk will be held on 8 March at the Republic Polytechnic.
