By: Ken Hall “There is so much good stuff in this auction I almost don’t know where to begin,” said Sharon Finney of Finney’s Auction Service. “We’ve got a great selection of Nantucket ivory carvings from a single owner, some very nice decorated stoneware, Asian chairs from a private collector who is downsizing, Victorian lots, musical instruments and a variety of other items.” The auction’s expected star lots originated in Asia. Offered will be a beautiful pair of Jichimu and Huang Huali horseshoe folding hunting chairs with bumble bee decoration on the base, with carved back panels, in very good condition; and a pair of oversized Buddhist monk horseshoe back chairs with pinned construction, nice carved back panels and round wax seals. Also from Asia: a very ornate black lacquer antique Japanese Butsudan shrine with gilt interior, a double set of doors, silk mesh lining for the interior doors and orange interior drawer, in very good condition (6 feet tall by 4 feet wide); and a group of four Chinese pencil and ink drawings, each drawing measuring 10 inches by 10 inches and each one matted and framed. The Nantucket ivory carvings are certain to wow the crowd. Top lots include a detailed carving on a 26-inch piece of petrified ivory, signed Doug Fine; a carving on 10-inch-long ivory, signed Yoko Gados; and two carved ivory globes on a wood base, signed Charles Manghis. Also sold will be a nice Lalique fish bowl with amber applied fish on the sides, standing 10 inches tall. From the Victorian era, offerings will include a lovely walnut triple-door bookcase and a photo of two Victorian women with bicycles, decorated with red, white and blue and housed in a brass trim frame. Also sold will be a large unsigned painting on tin; an early daybed with ornate, acanthus carved posts, 74 inches long; a German porcelain banquet lamp with crossed swords in blue and a brass front; and a Native American basket with designs top and bottom, 10 inches tall.
