Spay Day is a national campaign of the Humane Society of the United States. The main goal of the campaign is to educate people on the importance of spaying and neutering, and to encourage them to spay or neuter their own pets. In addition to health and behavioral benefits, spaying and neutering helps reduce pet overpopulation and decreases the number of animals euthanized in shelters. To help us fulfill this important part of our mission, DHA’s Spay/Neuter Program provides low cost spay and neuter surgery for cats and dogs year round at our shelter at 701 A Street in Wilmington. Other low cost services offered at the time of surgery include distemper and rabies vaccinations, microchipping, heartworm testing for dogs, FeLV/FIV (Feline Leukemia/AIDS) Pets who are already spayed or neutered can obtain these services (along with bordatella vaccinations for dogs and New Castle County dog licenses) at DHA’s monthly Wellness Clinics, which are held in partnership with and on-site at Concord Pet Foods and Supplies stores throughout New Castle and Kent Counties in Delaware. For more information, visit http://www.dehumane.org/ All services at the both the shelter and at Wellness Clinics are provided by a licensed veterinarian. # # # Founded in 1957, the Delaware Humane Association (DHA) is Delaware’s first no kill animal shelter and adoption center. We are committed to providing for the needs of homeless dogs and cats in our community. Serving over 5,000 companion animals annually through direct intervention and many more through advocacy, we continue to promote the humane values of protection, care, and compassion for all living things. We envision a future where all people and their pets live healthy, happy and long lives together. Our mission is to act as a voice for companion animals and to enhance their welfare by providing temporary shelter, low cost spay/neuter services, vaccination clinics, humane education programs, and adoption/placement resources. We rely on the support of the community in the form of volunteers, donations, bequests, and fundraising events.
