Feb. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- A standard feature of any cell phone, corporate PBX or land line phone is voicemail. Voice mail is designed to convey a recorded audio message to a recipient.  Voice mail has three basic aspects.  Voice messaging systems use a user interface which allows users to manage, select and play the messages that have been delivered to them. Voice mail has a notification function, which is very important as it tells the user there is a message waiting for them to listen to.

Depending on the type of voicemail system that is used, notification methods will vary.  Simple VMS systems may not actively notify you of a message and instead will require you to check with the system.  Other VMS systems may provide you with an indication that there is a message waiting for you.  The two major types of voice mail systems are voice messaging and telephone answering and there are differences between these two systems. When you have a telephone answering mode you can ensure that if no one answers or the extension is busy then the mode will answer the phone and take a message. Voice messaging allows a person with a mailbox number to send a message to another mailbox without calling first.

One of the great benefits of using voice mail is that it allows us to keep in touch and leave messages with people when we can't get through to them, which is why it is so useful in both personal and business life.  Over the years voice mail has changed and evolved, keeping up with new technology and is now easily integrated with text messaging and email. Most people have a voicemail system of some sort.  Ensuring your check your voice mail often and stay up to date with the changing technology will make your life a little easier.

UM, also known as unified messaging allows a person to process fax, text and voice messages in one single mailbox that can then be accessed by email or telephone.  UM is unique because it makes a variety of communication technologies like fax, voice mail, email, SMS and video messaging all accessible using a single interface.  Unified messaging allows many types of messages to be stored in one spot, using one system no matter the device used to create the message.  Voicemail can be delivered directly into the users’ in box and played through a headset or the computers speakers.  PC users can open and play back voice messaging if their PC has multimedia capabilities and fax images can be saved or printed.  Accessing your email by telephone is a great benefit of UM.

Unified messaging, or UM provides a great convenience for mobile professionals who travel or work odd hours because it allows them to reach customers and colleagues through a computer or telephone, depending which device is more readily available.  Some services even offer worldwide telephone access, which is perfect for businesses which require a lot of travel from country to country, making accessing all communications easy and convenient.  UM is used mainly in business environments because its goal is to simplify the experience for the user by improving business productivity and minimizing communication issues..
