Connecting the World through Music and Dance in the 20th Century

Documentary focuses on the cultural dynamics of music and dance across the globe, and how these expressions collectively demonstrate and celebrate our connectedness and shared humanity.

Feb. 13, 2011 - PRLog -- The UNArts Radio News Broadcast: January 28, 2011, spotlighted the unmet humanitarian needs landscape in 192 UN member countries,  The vehicle for this discourse was Arts Integration Into Education through the United Nations Arts Initiative, promoting the arts as a vehicle for solution oriented strategic planning and development across the globe. -- CMA Artist H-II: Stephen Michael Apatow Redefines The Meaning Of Country Goes Global [1,2]

In a collaborative effort, Music Artist/Founder of the United Nations Arts Initiative Stephen Michael Apatow [3] and Director/Choreographer Daryl Gray [4] are working together to produce a documentary on the cultural dynamics of music and dance across the globe, and how these expressions collectively demonstrate and celebrate our connectedness and shared humanity.  Translation and global access to the production represents the first major Arts Integration Into Education project that accomplishes this objective.

Immediate priorities associated with each cultural focus area [5] include (1) establishing connections with arts education representatives in every UN member country, (2) expert reference points in the United States and (3) acquisition of digital video and soundtracks related to:

Stephen Michael Apatow

Country Music Association Artist H-II: Stephen Michael Apatow is founder of the Humanitarian Resource Institute and United Nations Arts Initiative. Since 1989, national project development and advocacy work included the formation of Humanitarian Resource Institute, to "Bridge Unmet Needs to Untapped Resources." As director of research and development for the Humanitarian University Consortium Graduate Studies Center for Medicine, veterinary Medicine and Law, he promotes leadership development through strategic planning, critical analysis, expert think tank development for background discussions, peer reviewed data compilation and communications that engage decision makers and target audiences on the grassroots level in 192 United Nations member countries. Today, this work continues through the United Nations Arts Initiative and global promotion of "Arts Integration Into Education." He is also a Member/Publisher: American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).   As an artist, 2010 marked the release of his first album entitled "Country Goes Global." In 2011, Stephen was named an ambassador for the Vet2011 global initiative that celebrates World Veterinary Year and the 250th year  anniversary for the veterinary profession.

Daryl Gray

Daryl Gray studied acting, music and a full dance curriculum as a child in NYC. He made his professional debut as an actor at age 14, appeared in plays and then performed both classical and contemporary repertoire with major Ballet companies in the U.S. and abroad.   Mr. Gray was a Broadway cast member in Bob Fosse’s ‘ Dancin’ and appeared as a soloist in ‘On Your Toes’ and in other shows, touring worldwide.  Working with many “name” stars, his many musical stagings and creations have been seen at Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami, California Musical Theatre, Lincoln Center, Playhouse 91 in Manhattan, Playwright’s Horizons, Santa Fe Festival Theater, Brooklyn Academy of Music, St. Louis Muny, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Chicago Civic Theater, as well as on CBS and PBS television.  ‘A Celebration of the American Musical’ was televised “Live from Lincoln Center”. He was Co-Director for NYGSP production of “Patience” in New York City and choreographed an industrial show for Disney with a 150 Broadway cast members. For the concert stage, Mr. Gray has choreographed for the Joffrey Ballet and over 70 works for numerous dance companies on five continents. His eclectic work has included opera, industrials, ice dancing, video and high fashion shows. Gray’s theatrical musical staging of “Carmen” played at the NYC Opera at Lincoln Center from 1991- 2007.   Mr. Gray’s Australian/American dance production of “Pirates of Penzance!” with singers toured Florida in 2008. It was voted “Best of the Bay” (San Francisco) in 2005 and recently returned to sold-out houses in the fall of 2009. He also created original new works for the Beijing Arts Invitational, DanceBreak at the Ailey Theatre, and Wild About Harry and Andy Warhol Was Right for the New York Musical Theater Festival. Mr. Gray is a popular master teacher and has taught at the United Nations in NYC, Harvard and Washington Universities and for numerous dance companies, schools and organizations around the globe. He is a Fulbight Fellow for the International Exchange of Culture, for which he has just returned from teaching at the University of Norway. Future plans include the Fred Astaire Awards in New York City, a British production of his “Pirates Of Penzance!”in the West End, San Francisco Ballet, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and several new musical theater productions.
