Michael Wardell ran against Billy Long in the 2010 Republican Primary for Congress in Missouri 7. He offers some thoughts today about Billy Long's first month in office.

Congressman Billy Long: A Study in Sub-Par Mediocrity

With all of the bloviating Congressman Long does on his twitter account, you would think that he has been this great boon to the conservative movement.

But lets be real, he’s nothing more than a empty windbag of dogmatic talking points straight from of a lobbyists’ tongue as real as sarcasm drips from the mouths of teenagers. Congressman Long has never had a fleeting thought of representing this district. Based solely on his month and some change in office, he has quickly become what the people of Southwest Missouri didn’t want, A party hack that lets the wind blow his positions to and fro based on what others want him to do.

Case in point(s)

Day 2 of him being in office, the historic day that the U.S. Constitution is read on the house floor. Where’s Congressman Long? Meeting with a lobbyist, in Springfield.

After swearing to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, and will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, Congressman Long violates his sworn oath by co-sponsoring and voting for the extension of the Patriot Act. This act allows Federal Law enforcement to execute warrant-less searches in clear violation of the 4th Amendment.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, hall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

However I and others are of the opinion to the contrary:

“The PATRIOT Act butts against the protections of six Constitutional amendments: the 1st (freedom of religion, speech, press, and assembly, and the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances), 4th (freedom from unreasonable searches), 5th (right against self-incrimination and due process), 6th (due process, the right to counsel, a speedy trial, and the right to a fair and public trial by an impartial jury), 8th (reasonable bail and freedom from cruel and unusual punishment), and 14th (equal protection guarantee for both citizens and non-citizens).” Walter Brasch - Obama's Ironic Legacy Might be That He Continued an Unconstitutional Act.

He also co-sponsored the ‘Snitch’ Act also known as the ‘see something say something Act. How fitting. Billy is true to form after getting the FBI to check into a blogger that has been critical of him, the snitch act is soooo exact in its description. How about I call Big Sis and snitch on Congressman Longs potential violation of the Smith Act as well as his violation of his oath of office.

Congressman Long has also promised charities that they have a friend in D.C. What does that really mean?

Never mind that, Just tell me what enumerated power give you the authority to help one charity and not the other unless it’s your personal donation.

Don’t worry, we in Southwest Missouri won’t be holding our collective breaths over this.

Finally the budget cuts that Congressman Long is so proud of. Before I eviscerate his position a little background might help the reader: These cuts proposed first are DRT. (Dead Right There, in Congress) The Senate will not approve this and the President won’t sign it. So at the very minimum it’s a waste of time and valuable resources. What it really is, is a way for my fellow Republicans to say things like: ‘We cut it and the Dems won’t go along with us, it’s their fault.’ In reality it’s our fault for sending these people back to do a mediocre job.
The current budget is 3.69 Trillion

A trillion looks like this: One hundred dollar bills on a 4X4 standard pallet, double stacked, 50 wide and 80 deep, approximately 1.54 acres x 3.65 or 5.62 acres of money. The cuts Congressman long is so proud of would equal the front row being taken away, or maybe a better way to put it would equal $290.00 out of the $14,500.00 Congressman Long takes home a month (before taxes) Another analogy would be to say that it equals 10 days of government operations

WOW what a sacrifice Billy, on the level of tossing Ammo crates off the sinking Lusitania.

Keep up the sub-Par mediocre work. It’s obvious that you are truly Fed Up with Washington D.C.
