2012 Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Crossover SUV in our future

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 12, 2011 - The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the year and we expect the 2012 Volt to receive the same award!

Here are some of the notable features for the 2012 Chevrolet Volt:

The MPV5 crossover concept has flip-and-fold 2nd-row seats that expand cargo volume from 30.5 cubic feet to 62.3, so the production model should follow suit. It's also probably safe to say that the retail version will offer most all the standard and optional features expected of compact SUVs, so the goodies lists should show things like a navigation system, satellite radio, wireless cell-phone link, digital-music-player connection, keyless entry/engine start, obstacle detection, rearview camera, multiple cupholders and small-item storage places and, of course, GM OnStar service. The MPV5 concept was fitted with the expected low-rolling-resistance tires on premium 17-inch forged-alloy wheels, but we suspect 16-inch cast alloys will be standard. The 2012 Chevrolet Volt MPV5's aerodynamic body is designed to cut wind resistance for maximum range.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimated the Volt’s energy use as the equivalent of 93 mpg in electric-only mode. In combined gasoline-electric driving, the EPA estimated the Volt would average 60 mpg, GM said. In gasoline-only mode, when the battery was drained, the car would get 37 mpg, GM said.
