Governor Daniels Proclaims 2/11 as Official Indiana 2-1-1 Day

Feb. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Governor Mitch Daniels has proclaimed February 11, 2010 as an official Indiana 2-1-1 Day. He invites all citizens to duly note this occasion. Celebrate by spreading the word about 2-1-1!

What is 2-1-1?
United Way 2-1-1 is the bridge between you and the answers you need to find local services, from general community information to counseling, food, clothing, after-school programs, shelter, legal and financial assistance, and much more.  2-1-1 is fast, convenient and designed with you in mind.

Call Center
By dialing 2-1-1, you are linked to a live, highly-trained Information & Referral Specialist who will assess your needs and match you to the best resource in your community. Assistance is confidential and offered in both English and Spanish.

What types of questions can be answered by 2-1-1 Call Specialists?
Call specialists will provide comprehensive information and referral services to callers about a variety of issues, including:

   * Basic Human Needs: food, clothing, shelters, rental assistance, utility assistance...
   * Support for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities: adult day care, congregate meals, Meals on Wheels, respite care, home health care, transportation, homemaker services...
   * Support for Children, Youth and Families: childcare, after-school programs, Kids Care (health insurance programs), family resource centers, summer camps and recreation programs, mentoring, tutoring, protective services...
   * Physical and Mental Health Resources: health insurance programs, Medicaid and Medicare, maternal health, Children's Health Insurance Program, medical information lines, crisis intervention services, support groups, counseling, drug and alcohol intervention and rehabilitation...
   * Employment Supports: financial assistance, job training, transportation assistance, education programs...


In Times of Disaster
During a disaster, United Way 2-1-1 works with the local County’s Offices of Emergency Services (9-1-1) to provide information to the community, and trend analysis results to County officials, report unmet community needs , and act as a central communications service for various community agencies and non-governmental organizations.

Community Assessment
United Way 2-1-1 reliably tracks needs and provides social service, education and church leadership with needs assessments that allow them to address emerging social trends in real time
