Officers Swoop on Pet Shop to find employed worker previously found Guilty of Animal Cruelty!

Feb. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Pet Shop owners have lost their pet shop license following an inspection.

Overcrowded cages, dirty enclosures and inappropriate water provisions is what licensing officers found a Cardiff Reptile Centre.

A member of the public notified the council after visiting the pet shop to find a lizard with half it's tail missing - the pet shop owner supposedly explained that it was due to an injury sustained within the shop. The pet shop staff further informed the customer that they did their best prior to splinting the tail with a cotton wool bud and a human plaster.

It was reported that Licensing Officers also found a Marmoset Monkey - a monkey this pet shop did not have a license to sell. In addition, officers also found a man working on the premises who had previously been given a life ban for animal cruelty and neglect.

Leanne Carter, the Pet Shop owner was not impressed after the licensing committee expressed concerns that despite recent improvements the premises was not being managed so as to properly ensure the welfare of animals and protect the public. In particular, the presence at the premises of an individual that had been banned from keeping animals or holding a pet shop licence was a matter of concern, as was the fact no suitably qualified person was available at the premises in accordance with the licence conditions.
