McGladrey Presents Seven Local Nonprofits with More Than$70,000 from Culinary Challenge Event

Feb. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- BOSTON – (February 10, 2011) – Last night, seven named nonprofits were presented with over $70,000 from the McGladrey Culinary Challenge for Charity.  The Culinary Challenge, hosted in December, paired seven charitable organizations with renowned Boston-area chefs and media personalities as celebrity “Sous-chefs.”  It was attended by more than 700 guests, including Police Commissioner Ed Davis, Police Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald, Eastern Bank President Bob Rivers, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston President and CEO Josh Kraft, RSM McGladrey President C.E. Andrews and RSM McGladrey Managing Director Johnnie James.  

Last night’s cocktail reception and formal check presentation was held at McGladrey’s Boston office.  Attending the event were executive leaders of the seven charities, along with Chris Damian of Legendary Restaurant Group, Natalie Jacobson, retired anchor on WCVB-TV Channel 5, Athena Yang of Forays of a Finance Foodie, and Dave Kartunen of WHDH- TV.  

Each of the participating nonprofits received $8,800 from the McGladrey Foundation.  As first place winner of the Culinary Challenge, Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries received an additional $7,500 and as second place winner, The Genesis Fund received an additional $2,500.  

“We were thrilled so many people came together for our celebration and to show their support of these organizations by donating more than $70,000,” said Richard J. Caturano, the firm’s Boston office managing partner and former CEO of Caturano and Company.  “The McGladrey Culinary Challenge for Charity provided us with an opportunity to show our appreciation to our clients while continuing with our long standing commitment to the community.”

Participating nonprofits included Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, The Genesis Fund, Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries, The Jewish National Fund, The Lenny Zakim Fund, Boston Police Activities League and Special Olympics. Participating local restaurants included Restaurant dante, Towne, Legendary Restaurant Group, Oyster, Gargoyles on the Square, Prezza, L’Espalier. Celebrity Sous-chefs included WHDH-TV 7 ‘s Janet Wu, WCVB-TV Channel 5 ‘s retired anchor Natalie Jacobson, Boston Magazine’s Donna Garlough, WBZ news Radio 1030’s Jordan Rich, TV Diner and Matty in the Morning’s Billy Costa, WDHD-TV7 NEWS’ Dave Kartunen, and Forays of a Finance Foodie’s Athena Yang.
