Dell Streak 7 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 - Tablets Comparison

Feb. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- The Dell Streak 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 16G are two of the most eagerly awaited tablets out there. Both measure up at a mean 7 inches, so what are the similarities and differences between the two?

The Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 is a weightier beast, weighing in at 380g compared to 220g for the Dell. They are similar in size (the Dell is a few millimetres longer). Importantly, the Tab is also rather slimmer, which makes it easier to carry around – even a few grams or millimetres can make all the difference. http://www.clove.co.uk/dell-streak

The Dell Streak has a 480x800 LCD display with Gorilla Glass for added protection, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab has a 1,024x600 inch super TFT LCD display. That makes the Dell's display surprisingly weak, similar to smartphones of half the size.

In terms of storage, both tablets are pretty much the same. Both have a 16GB inbuilt capacity and are expandable to 32GB – half of an iPad's built in memory, for reference.

When it comes to software, Dell Streak runs Android 2.1 and Samsung Galaxy Tab Android 2.2 (Froyo) out of the box, and this can be updated to Android 2.3 – Gingerbread. However, the Dell Streak will also be upgradable to Android 3.0, which is called Honeycomb and is designed specifically with tablets in mind. It seems unlikely the same will be said for the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Both are again pretty similar when it comes to connectivity, with Wi-fi and 4G. The Samsung Galaxy Tab offers Bluetooth 3.0 and DLNA that enables you to stream videos etc around your home network.

With cameras it is also hard to differentiate between the two. The Samsung Galaxy Tab has a 1.3MP front facing camera and a 3MP camera in the back and the Dell Streak has a VGA videocall camera and a 5MP camera in the back, both with an LED flash. Price is still to be confirmed for both devices. They are both good pieces of kit, but the Dell's screen lets it down, while the Samsung being unupgradable to the Honeycomb OS is a bit of an own goal.
