PRLog - Feb. 10, 2011 - Sunday February 13th, 2011 will mark an exciting event for many surgeons. Surgeons from over 17 different countries will be attending the convention held at the Key Biscayne Surgery Center in Miami, FL. The Fat Graft Convention is a big event where hundreds of doctors attend to learn the latest cutting edge technique in breast augmentation & reconstruction surgery. The convention includes Live surgery demonstration, live office consultations, didactic lectures, round table panels and more. Surgeons are anticipating a new approach to breast augmentation that has been perfected by Miami Breast Center Surgeon Dr. Roger K. Khouri, MD, FACS.
The technique known as fat transfer breast augmentation is a term used to describe the use of a patient's own unwanted fat and relocating it to the breast to achieve a natural breast augmentation. Fat transfer was not approved by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons over 20 years ago due to previous failures to sustain the fat within the breasts. Cosmetic surgeons soon began relying on breast implants to achieve breast augmentation for patients. However after decades of careful study and hundreds of successful trials, Dr. Khouri has perfected the fat transfer technique as a real competitor to breast implants. With his invention of the Brava (A breast suction device), Dr. Khouri has successfully managed to retain 90-100% of all the fat injected to the breast. Today this method of breast augmentation has been approved by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Women who prefer larger breasts have been relying on breast implants which involves surgeons cutting the patient and forcing synthetic implants into place. Breast implants are popular but is still considered a highly risky surgery for aesthetic improvements. Even after the procedure is over there is a high probability that one of your implants will rupture. They not only obscure signs of breast cancer but it has been announced by the FDA that there is a possible link between a rare form of cancer called Lymphoma and women with breast implants.
Dr. Khouri will be discussing among other faculty members this innovative alternative at the convention and will also demonstrate with a live procedure. Another very interesting detail about Dr. Khouri's method is that it involves absolutely no cuts or incisions to the body. The fat is harvested from places like the stomach, arms, legs and buttocks of the patient which will then be injected to certain areas of the breast made available by the Brava device. Fat transfer breast augmentation shows promise and has the potential to make breast implants obsolete.
