Feb. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Derby based motorhome specialist Peak Leisure Vehicles is expecting customers eyes to be wider open than usual this year as the company is set to take delivery of a selection of motorhomes with automatic transmission.

While not uncommon in the car and van market per se, motorhomes with automatic gearboxes are still pretty rare in the UK, so the arrival of coachbuilt models with an automatic option is sure to generate a great deal of interest among the motorhome buying public and industry insiders who will be keen to see if an automatic alternative proves as popular to drive away as the more traditional manual option.

Peak Leisure Vehicles director Claire Parsons, herself a committed fan of motorhomes, is confident the arrival of an automatic alternative is going to strike a chord with many customers – old and new alike: “Many people, particularly in the UK market always tend to prefer manual, given that is the most common driving preference here, but there are always those who would appreciate an automatic option and for the first time we are going to be able to offer them more choices here,” explained Claire. “I am quite happy with manual and it’s really a case of personal preference but the automatic lovers at last have something to shout about and we are looking forward to helping them find the model that’s right for them.”

Automatic gearboxes are usually found in larger executive cars or are supplied in small numbers for those who have not passed a manual driving test. The common view used to be that automatic made it easier to handle a larger vehicle, but today’s modern manual motorhomes have made such issues a thing of the past, so what if any advantages can an automatic motorhome provide?

“Aside from the obvious reason if you do not hold a manual licence, an automatic for some has the same advantages as you would find with a typical car,” explained Claire. “Many simply find an auto box more relaxing and easier to drive. There is no constant changing up or down gear, which some find tedious, but the real advantage is for people who may have a disability that makes driving manual difficult such as leg or knee joint issues, since you only need your right leg for the accelerator and brake!”

“For most automatics, you can even take this simplicity a stage further with cruise control. Simply set it and off you go down the motorway with little need to do anything but steer. This facility is available on manual too, but as it needs to be reset from time to time, it is not quite the same smooth experience as the automatic option can provide, particularly on the new Bentley models.”

The Kirk Langley company has already announced they are to be one of the select national dealers for the new bespoke coachbuilt Bentley motorhomes, and they have already been inundated with people anxious to get behind the wheel and get up close to the new breed of motorhome to hit the market. The demo Ochre model from Bentley’s Artisan range arrived at the end of last year and now people can finally see the high spec and build quality with their own eyes.

“We’ve always specialised in sourcing high quality pre-owned motorhomes,” said Claire “ But the people behind Bentley Motorhomes have such a fantastic reputation and history in the motorhome industry; so when they told us they were going to start designing and building their own coachbuilt motorhomes, we naturally wanted to seize the opportunity. Bentley has the same ethos and same high customer service standards as Peak Leisure Vehicles, so we can be extremely confident about the products we’re selling and offering automatics is just another great idea.”

Still specialising in what have become known for, Peak Leisure’s Steve Parsons is still relentlessly travelling up and down the country sourcing the best pre-owned vehicles for the showroom and the company are still offering their sourcing service for people who know what they want but can’t find the right motorhome on the market.

For more information on the range of high quality pre-owned motorhomes available at Peak Leisure Vehicles, or for further details about the new automatic Bentley motorhomes or to pre-book a test drive of the new demo Ochre, contact Claire or Steve Parsons at Peak Leisure Vehicles on 01332 824782.
