The Pilani NCC Band the showpiece brand image of the BBVP School has achieved national fame by participating in the Republic Day Parade on January 26th at Raj Path, Delhi for the past 51 years. This year Jan 26th 2011 which is the 62nd Republic Day for India was the 52nd consecutive year for the Pilani Band and when they marched playing Iqbal’s immortal Saare Jahan Se Achha in Rajpath they invariably got their well deserved applause from the entire audience. The BBVP NCC Band Team left Pilani on December 30, 2010 for the month long Republic Day Camp – RDC.

National Cadet Corps - NCC Republic Day Camp is the culmination of all NCC Training activities. RDC is held at Garrison Parade Ground, Delhi Cantonment from 01 to 29 Jan. The Camp usually takes off with inauguration by the Vice President of India and culminates with Prime Minister's Rally. This year Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari inaugurated the RDC on January 6, 2011 and the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh attended the PM Rally on January 28 January 2011.

This year, over 1900 cadets both boys and girls drawn from 17 NCC Directorates covering all the States and Union Territories of the country participated in the Republic Day Camp. The VVIPs who visited RDC this year included Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, Chief Minister Delhi and three Service Chiefs of Army, Air Force and Navy. Chief Minister Delhi Smt Sheila Dixit who visited RDC on 08 January 2011 had words of praise for the NCC girls’ band from Birla Balika VidyaPeeth – BBVP Pilani.

During the RDC, various competitions are conducted amongst the participating NCC Directorates to decide the Champion Directorate for award of Prime Minister's Banner. Competitions are keenly contested in various events such as National Integration Awareness, Drill, Line & Flag Area, Cultural items, Best Cadet of Senior Division (Boys) and Senior Wing (Girls) in each Service - Army, Navy & Air. Aero modelling and Ship modelling are also conducted during RDC. With cadets hailing from different parts of the country, with different linguistic and religious background, RDC is without doubt a “mini-India”.

Sergeant Pooja Natarajan from BBVP Pilani who had participated in RDC for the Jan 26 2008 Rajpath parade playing the trumpet said that she was excited to lead the famous band of her school along with Akansha Rathi and Aditi Priya for the Republic Day parade on Jan 26, 2011.

Getting up at unearthly hours and long hours of practice were the norms at RDC. The rehearsals at Rajpath on Jan 17, 18, 20, 21 followed by the full fledged dress rehearsal on January 23, 2011 ensured the fine tuning to utmost precision which is the hall mark of the Republic Day parade. Sergeant Pooja also said that visiting the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 27 January 2011 along with five of her BBVP band mates was yet another unforgettable experience.

The BBVP Band team got a rousing welcome from the students and teachers of the school when they returned back to Pilani on January 30, 2011.
