Global Offset Experts: First Solar inks 20-year deal with Edison International for solar energy.

The world’s largest producer of thin-film photovoltaic panels announces a major deal with Edison International for its Nevada solar plant.

Feb. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Global Offset Experts has learned that the world’s biggest manufacturer of thin-film photovoltaic panels, First Solar Inc., has announced that a unit of Edison International intends to purchase nearly three-quarters of the energy produced at a planned 340MW solar project in Nevada.

According to First Solar spokesperson Alan Bemheimer, Southern California Edison has agreed to buy 250MW over 20 years. The contract however is still awaiting approval from the California Public Utilities Commission.

First Solar’s new plant, called Silver State South, is to consist of panels mounted on 2,5000 acres near Primm, Nevada and is expected to be completed by 2014, Global Offset Experts has learned. The project will be capable of delivering an output of 250 MW of alternating current by 2017, according to a source at the firms Tempe, Arizona head office.

The planned facility will eclipse the firm’s adjacent Silver State North project, which will produce 50 MW of alternating current. This plant has an agreement signed a year ago to sell electricity to Nevada utility NV Energy Inc. for 25 years.

First Solar has declined to reveal the terms of the latest agreement or the expected cost of constructing Silver State South which will connect to Edison’s proposed Eldorado-Ivanpah 220-kv transmission line, Global Offset Experts sources report.
