By: Philip Brown

Feb. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- The United Kingdom's Midlands Region of the British Science Association has established a press room on PRLog where it will issue its future press releases.

The Regional Officer, Philip Brown, said “This is an exciting development which will allow us to gather all the Midlands press releases into one place and help the media keep in touch with what is going on in the Region.”

The Branches within the Midlands Region are planning an exciting series of events and activities during 2011 including: a survey in Leicester to investigate the public’s knowledge and opinions of texting, two science festivals in Nottingham and fun science-based activities for young people in Derby, and a series of lectures and other activities in the West Midlands.

Further information on these events will be issued in the PressRoom at http://pressroom.prlog.org/midlandscience/

Information for Editors

The British Science Association is a UK-based charity which envisages a society in which people from all walks of life are able to access science, engage with it and feel a sense of ownership about its direction.

In the Midlands it has four branches, all manned by volunteers who are mostly professional scientists or engineers, and supported by a staff Regional Officer.

The Association seeks to achieve its aims by connecting science with people: promoting openness about science in society and affirming science as a prime cultural force through engaging and inspiring adults and young people directly with science and technology, and their implications.

Established in 1831 as the British Association for the Advancement of Science, it now organises major initiatives across the UK, including the annual British Science Festival, National Science and Engineering Week, programmes of regional and local events, and an extensive programme for young people in schools and colleges.

The Association is managed by a professional staff, with around 30 people in the national office in the Wellcome Wolfson Building in South Kensington, London, and 5 regional staff across the UK including the Midlands Regional Officer.

In addition, there are sixteen scientific sections of the Association which contribute primarily to the annual British Science Festival, are run by committed volunteers. So too are the 30 or so branches, which organise events and activities locally across the UK.
